On a journey to Hamburg MIVA-director Karl Kumpfmüller thought about one thing: if every oncoming vehicle donated one penny - how many MIVA-vehicles could he finance from that. Of course it was not possible to ask for one penny from each oncoming driver but the basic idea to ask the drivers for a contribution was born. A little later MIVA asked the drivers in its first Christophorus Campaign for a penny for each kilometre driven without an accident. An idea which is nowadays as effective as in former times.
