12 Austrian shillings used to be the "old" MIVA annual subscription for decades. However we must not forget that at the time of MIVA´s foundation 12 shillings was a lot of money. The inflation of the coming decades resulted in the fact that the 12 shillings was seen as a symbolic contribution. A lot of people rounded their contribution up. Twelve is in fact a symbolic number: 12 apostles, the 12 tribes of Israel, the 12 hours of the clock or the 12 months: all mean completeness. The annual subscription of the MIVA patrons plays with the symbolism of the biblical number. Today the annual MIVA subscription is also 12: however not shillings but Euros.
